Best Hip Replacement in Nagpur
Best Hip Replacement
Hip replacement is a common type of surgery where a damaged hip joint is replaced with an artificial one (implant). At RNH Hospital, hip replacement surgeries are performed by expert orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dilip Rathi.
Adults of any age can be considered for hip replacement, although most surgeries are done in people between 60 and 80 years. Modern artificial hip joints are designed to last at least 15 years, providing significant pain relief and improved movement.
Types of Hip Replacement
There are 2 major types:
- Total Hip Replacement: The most common type, where both the ball (head of thigh bone) and socket are replaced with prosthetic components.
- Partial Hip Replacement: Only the head of the thigh bone is replaced, usually done in certain types of hip fractures.
When is Hip Replacement Needed?
Hip replacement is required when the joint is damaged or worn out, causing pain and reduced mobility.
Common causes include:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Hip fractures
- Septic arthritis
- Bone disorders (dysplasia)
Who Needs Hip Replacement?
You may need hip replacement if:
- You have severe hip pain, swelling, and stiffness
- Pain affects your daily activities and sleep
- Walking, sitting, or bathing becomes difficult
- Other treatments like physiotherapy, medications, or injections have not helped
How Hip Replacement is Performed?
At RNH Hospital, hip replacement surgery is performed under anesthesia:
- A small incision is made near the hip
- The damaged joint is removed
- An artificial implant is placed
- Surgery usually takes 1–2 hours
Hip Resurfacing
Hip resurfacing is another procedure where only the damaged surface of the joint is replaced with a metal covering.
However, this procedure is less commonly used now due to concerns related to metal implants.
